The Filson 3-Layer Field Jacket is built for the upland hunter who encounters severe rain, sleet and snow in addition to brush and heavy cover. Filson’s proprietary fabric combines a waterproof, breathable membrane with a rugged nylon exterior shell that resists tears and punctures from branches and briars. It’s fully outfitted for the field with pit zips, shell pockets, a rear game bag and attachment points for calls and transmitters.

Because wet and cold conditions shouldn’t put a damper on those magical days afield, we engineered our 3-Layer Field Jacket to withstand the foulest weather, as well as the thickest cover–right where those elusive birds are often found.

Waterproof, breathable laminate, tough enough to withstand abuse

For fully-waterproof protection, a traditional solution for hunters has been to rely on high-performance mountaineering clothing. But that gear is designed for a different job, where packability and lightness of weight top the list of design priorities. Those lightweight jackets, while great 6,000 feet up a mountainside, don’t stand up to the thick sagebrush, cattails and briars encountered in the pursuit of wild game. To create waterproof protection that meets the requirements of Filsons hunting customers, they worked with their supplier to produce high-performance, waterproof/breathable fabric tough enough to withstand the punishing abuse of busting through heavy brush all day. This exceptional fabric consists of a rugged nylon shell with a waterproof, breathable membrane laminated to it. The third layer is a tricot backer, which protects the membrane, adds warmth and helps vapors to dissipate and escape to the outside, keeping you dry from sweat buildup. To ensure complete protection, it’s fully seam-sealed and employs YKK® AquaGuard® zippers at the front closure and ventilating pit-zips.

This is the jacket that protects you everywhere, in all weather conditions.

Designed and field-tested by hunters, this 3-Layer Field Jacket is as fully-featured as they come. The front shell pockets are snap- and gusset-expandable, and easily hold a box of 3” 12-guage shells. Their protective flaps secure with corrosion-proof snaps, which are easily operated with one hand, even gloved, thanks to an ingenious loop attachment. Pocket-bottom grommets allow water drainage if needed. Behind the shell pockets are side-entry hand pockets. Entry to the chest pockets is from the center, so they’re easy to access when wearing a strap vest or backpack. On the inside is a zippered security pocket for valuables such as your license, keys or phone. The back features a zippered game bag, with enough room for a couple of pheasants or a limit of quail. The two-way drawcord-adjustable hood and Velcro®-adjustable cuffs seal out the elements with a custom fit. Final polishing touches include an interior zipper that’s compatible with Filson zip-in liners, and fabric loops on the chest for attaching transmitters, whistles or calls.
