About Filson and the unique restoration department

A LIFETIME GUARANTEE that may not be needed in your lifetime. It was in another Filson catalog, a century ago, that Filson founder C.C. Filson wrote, “You can depend absolutely upon our goods, both as to material and workmanship.” He would prove that he was a man of his word, as many of his goods lasted through their wearers’ lifetimes, and would eventually be passed down to the following generation. If any Filson item does fail or is otherwise damaged, we will replace or repair it without question. It’s worth noting that, over the years, many of our customers have chosen repair over replacement as their goods hold sentimental value, having been in the family for multiple generations and many decades./span>

WHILE OTHERS MOVED their manufacturing operations overseas, we wished them well and then built two more factories in the US. We’ve made our own goods here for more than a century and that’s not going to change. Our American factories allow us to keep an ever-watchful eye on product innovation and quality while giving us the capacity to manufacture even more of our own products. That’s the Filson way–a longstanding, stubborn approach, built upon practices and beliefs that have become increasingly more relevant over the last 123 years.

FILSON GUARANTEES every item made by Filson. No more, no less. Filson believes in their products and stand by the materials, quality, and workmanship for the lifetime of the product. The product lifetime specifically refers to the time at which, through normal use, the product can no longer function in its intended purpose.

Filson Guarantee covers:

* Failure of materials

* Failure of workmanship and craftsmanship

* Manufacturer defects

* Every item for the lifetime of the product

FILSON UNDERSTAND that you work hard and play hard, from hunting in the field to daily trips to the shop, they will do their best to get you back doing what you love. However, there are a few situations that are not covered under Filson guarantee. These include animal damage, chemical damage, damage caused by mishandling via airline or third-party shipping companies, extreme wear, third-party alterations and customer alterations, or using the item for use other than it’s intended purpose. Likewise, fluctuations in fit, abuse of the product, factory seconds, and disregard for the product care instructions are not covered.

FILSON GUARANTEES applies to all Filson items purchased through an AUTHORIZED FILSON RETAILER. BEAUBAGS IS AN AUTHORIZED FILSON RETAILER and takes care of your warranty claim. Please note, every item is subject to an evaluation by the Filson Repairs team.

Please contact BeauBags, preferably by e-mail. Please inform us about which product it concerns, your order number and describe what your complaint is including accompanying pictures of the problem. We will first examine your complaint and then, if necessary, submit it to Filson. After this we will e-mail you with a case number and instructions on how to send your product to a Filson Repair Center.

Regardless of the item (garment, luggage, or otherwise), all repairs are made with the objective of preserving the integrity and rugged durability you’ve come to expect from Filson. When performing repairs on fabric, Filson have found that darning is the strongest method of repair for tears and holes. If you are unfamiliar with darning, a piece of cloth is placed behind the damaged area and stitched on with a zigzag pattern to ensure coverage of any fraying areas. Once blended, the area repaired is often twice as strong as the original material. In other cases Filson may simply replace hardware with the same or most similar hardware available. If you’re not used to seeing these types of repairs, it can be aesthetically jarring. A repaired item can never look brand new, as if it just came off the store shelf – rather, the damage and resulting repair shows each item’s unique wear story. However, Filson can guarantee the repair under the same warranty that covers every other Filson product, That is how much they believe in their repairs and the production team who perform them. Filson typically use the same material that the item is made from when performing these types of repairs. However, colors may vary depending on the age and use of the item. Please remember that Filson repairs prioritize function over aesthetics.

Once we have provided you with a case number and return shipping label you are ready to send in your item to be evaluated by the Filson Repairs Team. Please ensure your product has been thoroughly cleaned prior to sending in to Filson facilities. Soiled items may damage our equipment and, in certain circumstances, present health concerns to the employees. Please thoroughly clean your item of any dirt, debris, fur, blood, feathers, mud, soot, and gunk before it is shipped. Please pay special attention to the interior of all pockets, as many items must be completely disassembled to reach the damaged area. If your item is deemed too soiled to work on, Filson will send it back to you. Once Filson have received your item their Authorized Repair Team will make the final determination on the status of your item with one of the following outcomes: If the item is repairable and covered under warranty, the item will be repaired at Filson’s expense and returned to you. If the item is repairable but not covered under warranty, you may either have the product returned to you unrepaired, or have the product repaired at your own expense. This will be communicated to you by one of Filson Repair Representatives. If the product is not repairable but is covered under warranty, one of Filson Repair Representatives will contact you to discuss you resolution options. If the product is not repairable and not covered under warranty, the item will be sent back to you with a letter providing the reason why it was not repaired. This may include items that have reached the end of their useful lifetime.

There are many reasons which might make a repair not possible but here is a short list of the most commonly requested repairs which, regrettably, Filson cannot perform repairs on: base layers (e.g. long johns) and socks, boots, down-filled vests and jackets, gloves, hats, hoodies, knit items, neglected leather items, suspenders, synthetics, sweaters, t-shirts, umbrellas, waders and seam-sealed jackets, wallets, and waterproof items including dry bags. As stated above, every item is subject to an evaluation by the Filson Returns Team.

What's all this business about my satisfaction? In 1897, C.C. Filson said, "Your satisfaction is the sole purpose of our transaction." Filson held that standard ever since. It's gotten Filson into hot water on some days, but over a hundred years later Filson stand by those words. If you purchase an item from Filson and are unhappy with it for any reason within the first six months, you may return your item for a refund, no questions asked. Well, maybe a couple of questions. Your feedback is very important to Filson and is used to help Filson improve there products.

What does "lifetime" mean? The lifetime guarantee specifically refers to the time at which, through normal use, the product can no longer function in its intended purpose.

What doesn't the lifetime guarantee cover? Filson's guarantee covers the failure of materials or workmanship, including defects, discovered through normal wear. Excessive wear and tear, animal damage, abuse, misuse or neglect is not covered by Filson's warranty. Filson also can't guarantee against accidents or damage incurred as a result of repairs, modifications or alterations done by a third party.

What is considered "general wear"? General wear is the natural breakdown of materials over a long period of normal usage. After years of wear, you may see a bit of fraying at the cuff. Eventually, the notch you always use on your belt may stretch. Once you've put enough miles on it, that luggage may show some scuffs on the corners that see a lot of traffic. This isn't a failure of materials or workmanship; it is simply the natural course of any well-built product. If a Filson item has served you well but is showing a lifetime of normal use, we hope you'll consider buying a replacement to last another lifetime.

Is there anything Filson won't do? Just barely. Here are a few accommodations Filson unfortunately cannot make.

* Exchanges for a newer version of a particular style

* Size exchanges on well-used or older items

* Repair or replacement of items purchased through non-authorized retailers

* Repair or replacement of items not made by Filson

* Exchanges of items without a defect

If the issue is not related to a failure of the product, the exchange or return will be determined on a case-by-case basis by the Filson Returns Team.

Will Filson repair my item, or replace it?Repair is always Filson's preferred course of action. However, if after evaluating your item it is deemed not repairable, Filson may need to replace your product. Please let Filson know by letter if your Filson product has sentimental value and you do not want the item replaced. Filson will honor your wishes and repair it to the best of Filson's ability, if a repair is possible. Repairs are made to preserve the strength and integrity of the product rather than have aesthetic appeal. Based on the amount of labor involved, some repairs may incur a charge. You will be notified if this is the case prior to any work being done on your item. If your damaged product requires replacement, please be advised Filson cannot also return your original product to you.

Please note Filson reserve the right to send back dirty or soiled items that may pose a health risk to the Filson Returns Team or Production Staff. Besides being unhygienic, unclean items may damage Filson's production machines and equipment. Particularly with hunting products, Filson ask that you clean the item and remove blood, feathers, and any other animal byproduct before sending it in for evaluation.
